SIGNING OUT & SIGNING IN

We have brought back the SIGN OUT binder for children that are departing the school before the end of day. Please make sure to come to the office and sign your child out from the Orange binder.  Even if your child is coming back during the school day we need you to sign them out, and check in again with the office when you bring them back.

A reminder as well if you drop your child off after the morning bell at 8:27am we need them to stop in at the office and make sure that Ms. Grace or Ms. Becky enters them as late.  If their teacher has already entered morning attendance they will be marked as absent and you will get a call noting your child is not at school.  Please make sure your kiddos come to the office first to check in before heading to class.

NOTICE OF INTENT REMINDER

Thank you to all of you that have already completed your Notice of Intent for next school year.  We have begun planning our organization for the 2025–26 school year, with much of it based on projections of the number of students who will be enrolled at Elizabeth Rummel School.

Although we are aware that plans can change, we would appreciate knowing if your child(ren) will or will not be attending ERS in the upcoming school year (Sept 2025-26).

If you have no yet already, can you please click on the link (2025-26 ERS Notice of Intent) to fill out the form at your earliest convenience - it only takes a minute!

Please note that you do not need to re-register your child each year. We only need your Notice of Intent form submission to let us know if they are staying with us or moving on to another school.

TRASH PAGEANT

With the guidance of Right from the Start (RFTS) Success Coach Kat Wiebe, 20+ grade 4 students dedicated their lunch recesses over the past 6 months to prepare for the Trash Pageant. They performed this entertaining and educational production, designed to inform Canmore residents about waste diversion at ERS's Earth Day Assembly on April 11, 2025. Originally created by the Precipice Theatre Society of Banff and adapted by Kat Wiebe, with permission, the Trash Pageant highlights how over 60% of what ends up in Canmore's landfill is not actually garbage at all!

Characters in the production include Garbage (the Methane Monster), the Compost Fairy, Chicken Wings, Paper Towels, Paper/Cardboard, Used Tires, Tin Cans, Aluminum Foil, Plastic, Plastic Wrappers, Glass, a Mattress, a Pop Bottle, and more! The audience will be encouraged to guess which character truly represents garbage.

Join these students for a second performance at the Biosphere Institute’s Share and Repair Fair on May 9, 2025 at Elevation Place at 6 pm.

RIGHT FROM THE HeART

Right from the HeART is a collaborative art project funded by the Pauw Foundation and supported by artsPlace and Right from the Start! Grade three students at ERS had five weekly sessions (March 5-April 9) with artist Lisa Young that connect sketching, drawing, viewing and painting mountains and trees with mindfulness. In the first session students engaged with Knowledge Keepers to gain indigenous understandings of the mountains and trees that we see every day around us. Students' artwork will be displayed around the school in April & May.

                                                            KNOWLEDGE KEEPERS
Our Knowledge Keeper visit in April with Tracy Stevens and Cassandra Poucette had discussions with our students regarding Indigenous views of taking care of the Earth.  As well, our Knowledge Keepers shared their language with us, talked about the importance of the sharing circle, and shared a story about the April Moon.

EXTRA CLOTHES!

ERS is asking for all students to keep a full change of clothes in their backpacks at all times. With the warmer weather comes puddles and mud, and we are unable to provide all students with a change of clothes, meaning parents may have to bring new clothes to the school during the day.

We would also appreciate any donations you can share of indoor and outdoor clothing to add to our closet – we gladly accept clean items in good condition (no rips, tears or worn knees) for all sized kiddos.

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR 2025/26

From German schnitzel to Spanish paella, hosting an international student means sharing stories over home-cooked meals - and sometimes getting treated to one yourself.  Just ask the 2 local families whose Italian students didn't know each other before arriving, but quickly bonded over skiing and making pasta from scratch.

We can't promise every student is a chef, but we can promise they'll bring in fresh perspective, cultural exchange, and meaningful connection into your home. And no, you don't need kids of your own or ties to the school district to apply.

Remuneration will increase to $1375/month for the 2025/26 school year and $1475/month for 2026/27!

What do you need to provide?

A full-time home in Banff or Canmore, a private bedroom for the student, and a room in your heart heart for a teen aged 14-17 who wants to practice English and experience life in the Rockies.  Host families are in short supply for the 2025-26 school year.

Help make someone's Canadian dream come true.
